Law School Celebrates Ninth Annual Diversity Gala Oct. 30

On Oct. 30, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ School of Law will honor two outstanding alumni and one corporate "organization of the year" at its ninth annual Diversity Gala: A Celebration of Diversity in the Legal Profession.

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 26, 2012—On Oct. 30, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ School of Law will honor two outstanding alumni and one corporate "organization of the year" at its ninth annual Diversity Gala: A Celebration of Diversity in the Legal Profession.

The ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Law Social Justice and Human Rights Awards will be given to The Honorable Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton ’76 and Andrew A. Vu ’93 in honor of their work for equality and human rights during their careers. At the event, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ School of Law will also honor Google as the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Diversity Gala Organization of the Year.

This year’s event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the historic Adobe Lodge, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½, 500 El Camino Real, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½, CA 95053.

In 2005, alumni founded the Diversity Gala in order to address the issue of diversity and to foster an atmosphere of inclusion for future young minority lawyers.  As one of the ten most diverse law schools in the country, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Law has continued to host an annual Diversity Gala to provide an opportunity for lawyers to form relationships that develop into mentorships, to be assured by representatives from participating organizations that diversity is highly valued, and to recognize the contributions that prominent members of the legal profession have made to further the interest of minority groups.

From a small event attended by students, alumni, and staff, this event is now attended by approximately 300 students, attorneys, judges and business leaders to honor the award recipients.  Additionally, the Diversity Gala is the Law School's primary means to raise funds for the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Scholarship, which awards students who are committed to promoting social justice for the most disadvantaged members of our society.  As a result of generous sponsor support of the 9th Annual Diversity Gala, we were able to raise more than $10,000 to support the Thurgood Marshall Civil Rights Scholarship Fund.
