Chris Bacon received $67,000 from Veggielution
Chris Bacon with the Environmental Studies and Sciences Department has received a $67,000 award from Veggielution to support his project "Advancing Food Justice and Accelerating Upward Mobility Through Cooperative Sustainable Food Enterprises in San Jose".
Project involves the following activities:
- Developing a feasibility study that builds on past in East San Jose incubating sustainable food enterprises w/ Lantinx and low income communities
- Linking sustainable purchasing projects, such as the Good Food Purchasing Program at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ County Hospitals with the incubation and scaling of new local vendors especially those those that can advance food food justice, lower climate emissions, and foster more plant-based diets
- ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Students and faculty would participate in conducting interviews, surveys, and focus groups as well as participant observation, lit reviews and more to develop a background study and an action plan for linking sustainable purchasing projects to the incubation and expansion of local food enterprises that advance food justice and accelerate upward mobility.
