Increasing ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Global Reach

ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Global Learning department in Global Engagement offers more than 25 Summer Study Abroad programs in 18 countries across the globe.

Summer Study Abroad Programs provide short-term, high-impact academic experiences that strengthen learning outcomes and connect classroom theory to global practice. Summer Study Abroad offers students the flexibility of a shorter program abroad during the summer and contributes to ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Impact 2030 Strategic Priority One: Reach on a Global Scale to increase the numbers of students abroad. By integrating intercultural experiences with academic frameworks, Summer Study Abroad advances ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s mission to prepare students to lead in international and intercultural settings.

Program Overview

  • Terms: Summer 
  • Duration: 4 to 8 weeks Mid-June to Mid-August (varies by program)
  • Credits: 4.5 to 9 ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Quarter credits (varies by program)
  • Cost: Approximately $3,500 – $10,000 (varies by location); Competitive Global Engagement scholarships are available, but federal, state, and ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Financial Aid is not available for Summer Study Abroad
  • Languages: English, German, Japanese, and Spanish (beginner, intermediate, advanced levels, depending on 
    location and placement)
  • Academic Levels: Summer after first year through summer after junior year (varies by location and placement)
  • Age: Minimum 18 years old
  • GPA: 2.75
  • Majors: All majors

Application Process at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½

Applications for 2026-27 abroad open Monday, November 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM PST and close Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:59 PM PST. The application period is for programs abroad during Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Winter/Spring 2027. Applications must be submitted through ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s .

Students may apply for one Summer Study Abroad program. As long as a student meets the eligibility requirements and submits a complete application by the deadline, they will be nominated by ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ to participate. Nominated ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ students also need to submit a Phase 2 application directly to their program, which may accept applications from students from around the U.S. and the world. This means the individual program may have enrollment caps even though ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ does not. It is important for all ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ students, regardless of their participation term, to submit their Phase 2 applications as early as possible.

Students may apply for both Summer Study Abroad and also Study Abroad during the Fall, Winter, Spring.
