Peer Advisor Overview:
The ISS Peer Advisors will foster connections and community for ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s 1600 international students and scholars. ISS Peer Advisors will assist with administrative tasks, lead events and activities, support communication, and provide guidance to international students throughout their time at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Student Support
- Support current students with I-20 form pickup and other immigration-related forms
- Connect students with resources, schools and other respective departments to answer common questions
- Assist newly arrived students with social, and cultural adjustment as well as the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ immigration check-in process
- Meet with students in person or virtually, as assigned
Event Coordination
- Assist the ISS team with developing, coordinating and participating in different ISS events such as ISW, iExchange, and other cultural and social programming
- Suggest and evaluate new events and programming ideas during our annual review
- Encourage students to participate in ISS-sponsored events
Communications
- Work with Global Engagement Staff to create communications content and postings including Instagram and LinkedIn
- Assist in publicizing upcoming ISS events (electronic bulletin board flyers, email communications, social media posts, etc.) to appropriate audiences
Administrative Duties
- Support ISS’s ongoing data entry needs
- Support ISS’s online filing (via document upload)
- Assist ISS staff in various administrative tasks and projects, as assigned
Eligibility Criteria
- International/global student status (or prior participation in a global program) is strongly preferred
- Willingness to work both set hours and flexible hours, depending on the weekly event schedule
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong detail orientation and accuracy
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Availability to work up to 10 hours per week
- Ability to work on-campus during ISS office hours: Monday and Tuesday 2-4 pm and/or Wednesday and Thursday 10-12 pm (Noon)
- Ability to work for at least one full academic year preferred
