Taylor Yamane Crowned Miss ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½
On January 13, Taylor Yamane '20 (mechanical engineering) was awarded the title of Miss ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ 2018 as a preliminary winner in the Miss America organization. She competed amongst five other girls, all of whom received scholarship prizes at the end of the night. Through the Miss ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Organization, Taylor promotes her platform of "Full S.T.E.A.M Ahead!" which advocates for science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. She wants to encourage young girls to pursue careers in STEM, despite it being a largely male-dominated field. As an engineer herself, Taylor knows how difficult this can be. However, she hopes her own experiences can inspire others to follow their passions. Taylor also wants to focus on keeping the arts alive in education and beyond. She loves music and is a member of the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Mission Choir as well as ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Chamber Singers and Concert Choir. Though engineering keeps her very busy, Taylor says she will never give up music. We are proud to support Taylor and wish her the best of luck as she goes on to compete in the Miss California competition in June.
