Student Honoree - Emma Hyndman
- Emma is a senior who will graduate with majors in Political Science and Women’s Studies.
- She leads the Amplify Project, which shares stories from anonymous survivors of sexual assault in The ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ student newspaper.
- Emma chose the book Difficult Women by Roxane Gay as her selected read.
Student Group Honoree - ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Community Action Program (SCCAP)
- SCCAP is a chartered student organization at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ committed to creating a more humane and just world. SCCAP offers students an opportunity to volunteer in their community and to take a first-hand look at social justice issues.
- Several of SCCAP’s community service programs involve tutoring programs where volunteers help students learn to read and encourage them in their educational pursuits.
- SCCAP was nominated by their advisor Lori Durako and is led by student directors Alaina Boyle and Elleni Hailu.
- The poster features members of SCCAP holding their favorite books, including Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes were Watching God, The Road to Character by David Brooks, and Untold Stories: Life, Love, and Reproduction, which was previously featured as the University Library’s Book of the Quarter.
Faculty Honoree - Dr. Rose Marie Beebe
- Dr. Beebe is an ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ alumna and has been teaching Spanish at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ for nearly 40 years.
- Her book about Junipero Serra, which was co-authored with her husband, ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ history professor Robert Senkewicz, was one of Choice Magazine’s top 25 Academic Titles for 2015.
- She was nominated by 10 of her students for her enthusiasm and passion for reading.
- Dr. Beebe chose Cervantes' Don Quixote as her selected read.
Staff Honoree - Rev. Laura Brekke
- Laura is an ordained Presbyterian minister who focuses her ministry on interfaith engagement. Since 2013 she has served as Director of Religious Diversity at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½.
- She is known for modeling ways that students and everyone in our community can respectfully build understanding and relationships across religious differences.
- Laura chose The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley as her selected read.
Alumni Honoree - Mariel Caballero '02

Mariel graduated from ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ in 2002 with a degree in political science, anthropology, and music. She later earned her Executive Masters in Public Administration from Golden Gate University.

Mariel is a leader both professionally and through her volunteer work in the community. Since 2013 she has worked for the County of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Probation Department as a Program Manager of the Violence Reduction Program.

She is currently the Co-President of ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½â€™s Chicano Latino Alumni Group, which brings together alumni of Latino backgrounds to create community from their shared experiences.
