Communications Interns

  • Nishi Goyal

    Supervisors: Chad Raphael and Maria Eugenia Flores Gomez

    Project: Nishi (class of 2028), a Web Design and Engineering major and Studio Art minor, served as the Initiative’s Communications Intern from 2025-2026. helped ensure our website met accessibility compliance standards and developed a consistent social media reposting strategy which increased engagement across platforms. In addition, Nishi conducted user experience research at the Human Computer Interaction lab and was involved in the development of the MayaRoots app through the Frugal Innovation Hub.

  • Sara Wheeler

    Supervisors: Chad Raphael and Maria Eugenia Flores Gomez

    Project: Sara (class of 2025), majored in Web Design and Engineering, and served as the Initiative’s Communications Intern from 2023-2025. expanded the website to better highlight student work, projects, and partnerships. She created a new visual identity across platforms, designing original graphics for the website, social media, and outreach materials. She also designed the Initiative’s new promotional poster and launched its YouTube channel to feature student videos and recorded events. Sara also worked in ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Imaginarium Virtual Reality Lab, Frugal Innovation Hub, and Human-Computer Interaction Lab.

  • Jaylinn Solis

    Supervisors: Chad Raphael and Maria Eugenia Flores Gomez

    Project: Jaylinn (class of 2023), a Bioengineering major in the medical devices track, served as the Initiative’s Communications Intern from 2021-2023. maintained our social media accounts and significantly expanded our website. She was part of the team that was honored by ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Center for Sustainability with its Innovation Award for organizing our 2023 Climate and Environmental Justice Conference. She also served as the SHPEtinas Director for the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and as a dancer and Fundraising Chair for ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½’s Ballet Folklorico, who performed at our 2023 conference.

  • Daniel Mendoza

    Supervisors: Chad Raphael and Maria Eugenia Flores Gomez

    Daniel (class of 2021), an Electrical Engineering major and Sustainability minor, served as the Initiative’s Employee #1. built our website, launched our social media accounts, and created fundraising videos and materials from 2019-2021. He also researched organizations and academics working on environmental justice, which helped the Initiative to build our networks. Daniel focused his studies on renewable power generation. He was also the Treasurer for the Latinx Student Union and for the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ Chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
