ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½

As a new Fellow in the Leavey Community Fellows Program, I have the amazing opportunity to work as a Policy Fellow at the ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ County District 3 Supervisor Otto Lee’s Office. During my first weeks, I was immersed in the work of local government and saw the critical role the county plays in the lives of individuals throughout ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ County. I have gained insight into policy referrals, particularly inhealthcare and social services, and have already attended several community events that address pressing issues like healthcare access and homelessness. What most surprises me in this role is the level of engagement the office has with the community. I have attended numerous meetings and events where I could see firsthand how policy decisions are made and their direct impact on residents. The work the District Office does is hands-on and impactful, something I did not expect to witness so
early. This organization is not just about understanding policies from a distance, but it actively contributes to solutions that can improve the well-being of underserved populations right here in ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ County. It is inspiring and humbling to be part of work that makes such a meaningful difference.
Through my role as a Fellow, I hope to contribute meaningfully to the organization and the broader ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½ community. By reviewing policy referrals and supporting projects focused on healthcare and social services, I hope to apply my academic knowledge to real-world challenges. I look forward to further immersing myself in this environment and making a positive impact during my time in the fellowship program.
