Dr. Michael Kevane is a Professor in the Department of Economics at ÃÛÌÒµ¼º½'s Leavey School of Business. His research spans development economics, gender, urban housing, and the role of public libraries in promoting reading and community development, with a particular focus on Africa.
Dr. Kevane's scholarship has appeared in journals including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, World Development, Economic Development and Cultural Change, the Review of Development Economics, and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. His work on libraries and reading has been published in Libri, World Libraries, and the Bulletin des Bibliothèques de France. He is the author of Women and Development in Africa: How Gender Works, co-author of Rural Community Libraries in Africa: Challenges and Impacts, and co-editor of Kordofan Invaded: Peripheral Incorporation and Social Transformation in Islamic Africa.
Dr. Kevane is a past President of the Sudan Studies Association and serves as Co-Director of Friends of African Village Libraries.
