This course is offered through Signature, the national British Sign Language awarding body. It is aimed at people already working within the Deaf Community and those who work in mainstream occupations, but who wish improve their communication skills with Deaf consumers.
The course consists of two units which cover receptive and productive signing skills: these both involve filming conversations with Deaf native sign language users and hearing people who have NVQ level 4 in British Sign Language.
These structured conversations will cover such topics as education, employment and the environment.
The training course will start in February 2010, last for six months and will include the following:
- Help with portfolio building
- Filming opportunities with Deaf visitors
- Individual tutorials: 4 x 3 hour sessions to includes in-depth
critical analysis of productive skills
- Group sessions
- Detailed, written feedback on candidates’ receptive
and productive skills.

Lyme Bay BSL will provide video cameras, T.Vs and DVD recorders.
Any candidate having his/her own camera would be requested to use
it, on the grounds of familiarity and accessibility.
An Initial Assessment Interview day will be held at Charmouth, Dorset in July 2009, ready for the start of the course in September 2009.At present I have the following dates available:

Each candidate will have a maximum of one hour. For this, there will be a fee of £70, deductible from the total course fee of £1,125, once the prospective candidate has been offered a place on the NVQ level 3 course
