British Sign Language Development Course

Lyme Bay BSL offers a Language Development course for a fee of £500.

This consists of 6 individual tutorials of 3 hours each and either some group sessions, (also of 3 hours duration each) depending on the number of candidates, or extra tutorials for practice in conversation, receptive and productive skills.

The Language Development course tutorials will cover the following:

Receptive Skills Practice

  • From BSL to English - a written translation from a signed video.
  • From BSL to English - filmed research on current topics affecting the Deaf Community.

(Candidates to research and film topics then send to tutor who will view and give feedback via email: this will be followed up in more depth during individual tutorials at a later date).

Productive Skills Practice

  • Identify and improve candidates atreas of weakness.
  • Increase candidates knowledge of BSL structure and non-manual features.
  • Acquire a greater usage of terminology linked with work environments.
  • Research issues such as medecine, the Deaf Community, education, sociology, the environment and politics.

This course is aimed at candidates who have passed either Level 2 or the NVQ3 and who wish to enhance their skills prior to progressing to the next levels in British Sign Language.
